Seyed Mahmoud Hessabi, the world-famous researcher and physicist, was born into a religious family in Tehran in 1902. At the age of 4 together with his family, he moved to Baghdad and then to Syria and later to Beirut, Lebanon, where he attended a French elementary school. He was a very clever boy. Among other things, he learned and memorized Quran, the Boustan of Saa’di, and the Divan by Hafez. He also knew five living languages: Persian, French, English, German and Arabic. At the age of 19, during difficult times of the First World War, he got a degree in American university of Beirut and later a Ph.D. in Physics at the Sorbonne University, France, when he was only 25. In 1927 Professor Hessabi came back to Iran. He did a lot of important things in the country. He also taught at Tehran University for many years. He was chosen the World Man of Science in 1987. Dr. Hessabi passed away in 1992.
